Ladder foot pulling away from back of 5er - DIY repair?

I have an Eagle 341RLQS and we took it out on it's maiden voyage last weekend. Everything worked great until I went up on the roof to sweep off the top of the slides. One of the feet on the ladder has pulled away from back wall of the 5er. The ladder is still sturdy, but the caulk has pulled away and the screws have come out. The other foot at the same level is still intact, as are the other ladder feet. I haven't tried to screw in the existing screws to the same holes, but I'm assuming they will slip. Any thoughts on how to get the screws to stick in the holes? I know it is covered under warranty, but I'd rather not drive 40 miles each way to the dealer for repair if it is an easy fix. Thanks in advance.

Where do you weigh your trailer?

The family is making our inaugural trip in the new 5er in a few days and I'd like to weigh my setup tomorrow. Where do you guys weigh your rigs? State highway weigh stations or truck stops? If I go to a truck stop do I need to go inside and pay someone to use the scale, or do I just pull up to the scale and go for it. I'm planning on weighing the following: With trailer attached: Front truck axle Back truck axle 5er first axle 5er second axle Without trailer attached: Front truck axle Back truck axle Is there anything else I need to weigh?

RE: About to install Trailair Equaflex on Jayco Eagle

I'm going to go back on Thursday and see if I can get the bolts seated all the way. It looks like the knurling on the bolts is about 1/4" deep, and each of the bolts that aren't seated all the way look like at least 1/8" of the knurling is seated. I'm not sure if that will eliminate the turning, but I think it will be best if I can get them all completely seated. We used a socket and a hammer on the bolt head side and tried to hammer them in, but that wouldn't do it completely. I did have a slight alignment problem with a few of the bolts. We tried to move them around for quite some time and we never got them lined up exactly right. Anyway, looks like I'm back at the storage lot on Thursday. Thanks. Trey

RE: About to install Trailair Equaflex on Jayco Eagle

I completed the installation (equaflex with all new wet bolts) this weekend and unfortunately it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I had to do the work in my storage lot, which meant I had to carry all of my tools with me. You know how that goes, you always forget one item that is critical. Anyway, we got the trailer jacked up just fine, but the trouble started with the bolt that connects the equalizer to the hanger. We couldn't get the nut off. We tried a breaker bar and an impact wrench. We finally had to cut the bolt off. We got the equaflex installed on that side, but we couldn't get the new wet bolt to sink all the way flush on the center hanger. I'd say about half of the knurling is in the hole, which means there is about a 1/8" gap between the hanger and the bolt head. We messed with that for quite a while and then proceeded to replace the rest of the bolts and brass sleeves. This took a little while because it required a lot of jacking up and down. In addition, one of the brass sleeves cracked when I was trying to tap it into the leaf spring. Therefore, one of my connections has the old plastic sleeve in it. I'm not sure if that will make a difference or not. BTW, we had the same problem with the bolt not sinking completely in the center hanger on the other side. All together it took about 10 hrs spread over Sat and Sunday. It would have been quicker if we had all of the tools we needed at the storage lot (or if we could have done it at my house). My only concern is the bolt on each center hanger not being sunk completely. Anyone else think this is a big concern? I'm also going to call Trailair today and see if they can send me another brass sleeve so I can replace the old plastic one at some point.

About to install Trailair Equaflex on Jayco Eagle

I have a 2008 Jayco Eagle 341RLQS and I'm going to install the Trailair equaflex (w/ wet bolt kit) this weekend. I think I'm comfortable with the process, but does anyone have any tips that will make the job easier/safer/faster, etc? Thanks in advance. Trey

RE: Designer 35RLTS and Jayco Talk...Thanks Frank!!

I recently purchased a 2008 Jayco Eagle 341RLQS. Everything seems good to go, but I have a question about the ceiling fan in the living room. I can't find a switch anywhere that appears to control the ceiling fan. I can barely reach up and turn on the light or the fan with the attached chain, but there is no way my wife can do it without using a step stool. Is there a switch that controls the ceiling fan or do I need to look into extending the fan and light chains? Also, has anyone installed the Trailair Equaflex on an Eagle? I'm planning on doing it this weekend. I'm comfortable with the process, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice before I begin. Thanks in advance. Trey

RE: length of 5th wheel

Purchase what works for you. Just because the salesman says people are buying 38-39' rigs doesn't mean you have to. There are many people on this site with 30' or less 5ers that are completely content.

RE: Trade in price on used 5er ???

We also sold ours on Craig's list. It was 3 yrs old and also in mint condition. We were offered $10300 for a trade-in and we sold it for $12500. We probably could have held out and sold it for a little more, but we were motivated. We included the weight distribution/sway control hitch (it was a TT) in the deal and transferred the extended warranty to the buyer. We paid $14900 for everything (TT, wd/sc hitch, extended warranty, and tt&l).

RE: Ready to buy, am I missing something on bargining ???

I priced my Jayco Eagle 5er through RVDirect.com. It had the exact options that I wanted. I went to my local Jayco dealer (I bought from him before and had a great experience) and showed him the RVDirect price. I told the sales guy to just give me the best price he could. He knew he was competing against the price from RVDirect, plus the cost and time to go pick the trailer up in Iowa (about 1000 miles each way). He came back and said the best he could do was to get within $2800 of the RVDirect price. I then asked if he could knock another $500 off if I financed it through him. He came back and agreed. The cost of my trip + the vacation hours it would have required was about $3000. I got it for $2300 over the RVDirect price, which saved me about $700. In addition, I purchased from a local dealer, which will probably help on the servicing side. I sold old travel trailer through Craig's List and got $12K for it. I would have received about $10200 on a trade-in.

RE: A problem deters full use of our new Bigfoot trailer

Since your 1-yr warranty will be up in June, I'd suggest taking it in to a Bigfoot service center. Any work they do will be documented and they will likely contact the manufacturer since it is covered under your basic warranty. Hopefully they will be able to get it fixed permanently. However, it if comes up again after your basic warrantly has expired then you may be able to get the manufacturer to cover any future fixes since it was originally worked on during the warranty period. I'd rather have it documented that it was worked on by "professionals" during the warranty period than have to persuade the dealer and manufacturer that the issue was occurring during the warranty period.

Jayco Eagle 341RLQS

I just finished the paperwork on my second Jayco, the Eagle 341RLQS. I'm doing the PDI on Friday afternoon. Do any Eagle owners out there have suggestions for things I really need to look for during the PDI? Are there any issues with your Eagle that aren't obvious (e.g. look behind the tv to make sure it is mounted correctly). I'm looking for anything that has been a consistent issue with Eagles, or more specifically the 341RLQS (hopefully there aren't any), that I may be able to get corrected while I'm doing the PDI. Thanks in advance.

RE: Jayco Eagle Super-Lite vs. Jayco Eagle

I've also heard that the flooring in the Super-Lite is not very durable. If you have a 1-ton and you are looking to keep the unit for a while, I think you will be happier with an Eagle or Designer.

RE: 5th wheel PDI v. TT PDI

Crash, Thanks for the info. I'm only driving about 50 miles to pick it up, so even if the initial setup isn't perfect I think I'll be okay. I didn't think about the teflon disk for the king pin. I've heard about them, but I didn't think about picking one up for the initial pull home. I want to get a mor-ryde or trailair king pin and a trailair suspension, but I'm going bare bones on the initial drive home so I can see how much "chucking" actually goes on. Since it will be pretty much empty I'm assuming there will be quite a bit, but I want to be able to compare the improvements with the king pin and suspension to the "stock" setup of the trailer. Depending on how much my truck squats, I may get some airbags at some point. I'm going to just see how much truck reacts and then modify as needed. Oh, and the pull test. I've already versed my wife on this process so she'll never let me pull without testing the hook up. Thanks again.

5th wheel PDI v. TT PDI

I'm picking up my new Jayco Eagle 341RLQS this Friday. I've had a travel trailer, but I've never had a 5th wheel. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about TT's and 5W's. Normally I'm telling the salesman stuff that they don't know. For those of you who have had both a 5th wheel and a TT, is there anything I should really focus on during the 5th wheel PDI? One thing I'm concerned about is the clearance over my bedrails and I've already talked to the sales manager about this. Obviously I need to learn how to use the hitch and sliding mechanism. We're going to keep this one for a while so I want to make sure I start off on a good note by being very detailed on my PDI. Thanks in advance.

Install a larger freshwater tank?

I know it is possible to buy a new freshwater tank to replace the existing one when it is old, etc. Is it possible to put a larger freshwater tank on a FW from the dealer? I'm looking at a Jayco Eagle FW and my only complaint is the 40 gallon (46 if the WH is full) freshwater tank. My family dry camps a lot and I'd like to increase the size to about 55-60 gallons. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

RE: 5th wheel payments

No matter how you work it, the key is to pay your vehicles off first since you can deduct the interest on the TT/FW/MH. We are about to upgrade from a TT to a FW and we're going to pay off the wife's car and finance the trailer.

SPANIELMOM, Thanks for the info. What type of rockers did you get? LaZBoys or the Euro gliders? Thanks in advance.

RE: Heartland Big Country v. Jayco Eagle

Thanks for the link to the heartland owners forum. I'll take a look at it later this evening to get more info.
